[Looking out through Bridal Veil Falls]

Looking out through Bridal Veil Falls
Moina, Tasmania, Australia, 11/12/2001
(c) 2001, Andrew Sigal

One of my favorite places in Tasmania is the Lemonthyme Lodge in Moina. It is a wonder, peaceful spot. There are a number of hikes that can be done from Lemonthyme. One of them takes you to two waterfalls: Champagne and Bridal Veil falls. At Bridal Veil Falls there is a spot where you can climb up behind the waterfall.

I took many photos from this point, looking out in various directions through different parts of the waterfall, and with different shutter speeds. Slow shutter speeds made the water look like solid strands partially obscuring the scene beyond; fast speeds turned the water droplets into beads of light sparkling in the sun. This shot is taken looking up at the trees through the thinnest part of the waterfall with a very fast shutter speed (1/800th of a second) and a polarizing filter.
