Lupins, like virtually every plant introduced to New Zealand, have turned into a rampant weed. Fortunately, while spreading broadly they are also improving the soil, and are quite beautiful. Along the shores of lake Taupo there was an extraordinary variety of different colors of lupins. I had a fun time trying different kinds of shots – close-up, wide, deep depth of field and shallow. I like the way this shot came out – the group of pink lupins in front, turquoise Lake Taupo in the middle ground, and the snow capped mountains in the back.
