[Lake Tekapo and Mt. Cook]

Lake Tekapo and Mt. Cook
Near Mt. Cook, New Zealand, 11/26/1998
(c) 1998, Andrew Sigal

Mt. Cook is one of the most beloved peaks in New Zealand. Snowcapped, rugged and majestic it is an extraordinary sight. Driving towards Mt. Cook one passes Lake Tekapo, with its amazing turquoise water. Some combination of minerals washing down out of the mountains gives it this striking coloration. This is not some trick of the light or PhotoShop chicanery; the water really looks like this.

The combination of the lake and the mountain in the background makes for a beautiful spot and a great photo opportunity.
