My friend Ted lived in Europe for many years, but didn’t own a camera. As he traveled around, he would go into photo booths and get pictures of himself. On a visit to the United States he showed me his stack of tiny photo-booth pictures, saying “here’s me in a photo booth in Berlin, and here I am in a photo booth in Oslo, here I’m in a photo booth in Florence…” and on and on. Of course, all the photos looked basically the same. There was nothing in particular to differentiate the photo taken in Paris, from one taken in Dusseldorf. That was the joke. In some of the photos Ted was jammed into the booth with one or more friends. It was all very entertaining in a rather abstract way.
Lacking a photo booth, Ted and I made a philosophically similar photo on a trip around Washington State. Here’s Ted and I on Mount Rainier. How do you know it’s Mount Rainier? Trust me.
