My sister and I had been at an Indian dance demonstration in Cortez one evening. The demonstration was OK, but not really gripping. As the sun was setting we were getting glimpses of and incredible sky, so we decided to leave the dance and head out in search of a better view. We drove further and further out of town, looking for a place that we could see the sunset without being blocked by houses, telephone poles, and other evidence of humanity. Finally we got near a canyon that made up the edge of that part of town, and I took this photo.
