[Monet's lily pond]

Monet's lily pond
Giverny, France, 4/27/1999
(c) 1999, Andrew Sigal

Visiting the lily pond at Monet’s home in Giverny is truly remarkable. When I got there I realized I had seen it dozens of times in Monet’s paintings. It’s quite something to see Monet’s brilliant Nympheas come to life right in front of you. Every detail, the water lilies, the willow reflected in the water, the Japanese bridge – they are all right out of Monet’s canvases. The only difference is that there are no tourists in the paintings :-)
