This photo was taken from a dive boat in the Andaman Sea near the Similan Islands in southwest Thailand. One evening a large number of fishing boats were working these rich waters. Most of the time we were diving within the marine sanctuary where fishing is not allowed, so seeing fishing boats was unusual. The captain of our boat, the cook, and I took a dingy over to a fishing boat where we bought some fresh crabs and squid for dinner that evening. Mmmmm, mmmm. It was amazing how many people were living on each of these boats. Most of the space on the boats was taken up by equipment and storage for their catch, so the living space was really crowded.
