[Broken columns in window]

Broken columns in window
Prasat Muang Tam, Thailand, 5/7/2000
(c) 2000, Andrew Sigal

At one time all the windows at Prasat Muang Tam would have been filled with these carved stone bars. Now, most are lost.

I like the framing of this photo, the stair-step pillars that remain and the red sandstone with its black and green staining. I shot this photo with a zoom of 81mm at f9 with a fill-flash; the result has an interesting lack of depth, though there is at least 8 feet between the window in front and the interior wall behind. The geometry of the stones adds another element of interest for me. I’ve rarely been pleased with my through-window shots, but I continue to try them. I think this one is a step in the right direction.
